Winter Ideas and Activities!

I'm getting the jump on winter with some activities to share!

Children love this activity and like to do it over and over again!

The Mr. Snowman story is read or sung to the tune of "Happy Birthday". This fun, educational activity is good practice using color and position words. Parts of the body and clothing items are also reviewed.

Once created by you, this 15-page book contains a different verse on each page. Additionally, it includes all the pieces for a 2-foot snowman, plus a worksheet for a child's drawing activity.

The snowman can be used as is, on a flat horizontal surface. It can also be used upright with tape, Velcro, or magnets on the back of each piece, depending on the surface you wish to attach it.
It can be used with the whole class, small group, or in a center.

I also used the snowman pieces as patterns to trace on flannel to create a flannel board Mr. Snowman.
It is especially fun for children that do not get any snow during the winter!

A different twist on snowflakes and 2D shapes together. Discuss the design of snowflakes and the 6 points.

Introduce or review the five shapes, circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon. Excellent practice for fine motor skills, cutting, and gluing.

There are 3 complete activities; 1 in blue shades, 1 in gray shades, and the last is black and white. Possible Sample Keys are included and are in blue shades.

I have many other geometric activities and money saving bundles in my store under the category Geometric Fun.

Thank An Educator!

Here is a set of free bookmarks for you or someone that you know, that has made a difference in the life of a child or another person.

The Starfish Story
It is a great product for administrators to give to staff members. It can be run on heavier paper and laminated for a lasting keepsake.

There are three bookmarks on the sheet. The poem listed below is centered on each bookmark. There is a set in color and another set in black and white.

THE STARFISH POEM
by Loren Eiseley
Once upon a time there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean
to do his writing.
He had a habit of walking on the beach
before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore.
As he looked down the beach,
he saw a human
figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think
of someone who would dance to the day.
So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw
that it was a young man
and the young man wasn't dancing,
but instead he was reaching
down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it
into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out,
"Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused,
looked up and replied,
"Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked,
why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it.
You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea,
past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one.“

You make a difference!

Two Patriotic Days in May!

Armed Forces Day is a day to recognize members of the Armed Forces that are currently serving. Armed Forces Day takes place on the third Saturday in May.

Memorial Day is a Federal holiday celebrated the last Monday of each May to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military.

Several activities are fun to do to encourage respect for our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and our flag. These are great for teachers in classrooms, homeschools, roadschools, daycares or any educational setting!

This is a creative arts and craft project that includes the cover sheet, flag template and parent letter. There are so many suggestions for decorations: glitter, pompoms, tissue paper, felt, foam, yarn,
sprinkles, colored rice, beads, sequins, shells, feathers, macaroni,
flowers, nature materials, sand, fabric, papers, foil, string, recycling
materials, whatever you have around the house.

Here are two free examples of this activity for you to use to practice math skip counting!
Cut apart the strips and glue them down on another piece of paper in the correct sequence. If the order is correct the picture is correct, then color.
For continued number practice, just cut the pieces and do not glue them down.
These can also be laminated and used over and over. For example, glue magnets to the back of each strip and use on a cookie sheet. Put a colored dot on the back of matching pieces set to keep them from getting mixed up!

Enjoy!

Fifty Nifty Days of Learning

50 nifty days of learning or 50 nifty days of school is cause for a celebration!
It happens about this time of year depending upon when you started.
I have two new products for this special occasion!
The first is a bookmark!

While it is a paid product in my store for all four versions,
I am posting two on here free just for my blog followers!
Enjoy!
I have also added a song for the 50 days too!
What a fun activity for the 50th Day of Learning or 50 Days of School!

There is a song poster, the number 10 poster and the letter posters that spell FIFTY. Also included is a cover sheet and directions. Each poster is 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

It is a great way to learn some letters of the alphabet and practice memory skills!

Assembly: Print the song poster, the 10 poster five times (if using) and the letter posters on heavy paper and laminate. The 10 poster can be printed out five times and placed back to back with the letter posters. Then they can be flipped during the song from the letter to the number 10.

Activity: Show the song poster and teach the song. Introduce the letter cards to go with the song. Pass the cards out to 5 students and as the letter is sung, the card is held up. Repeat until every student has had a chance to participate.

To make the activity harder, sing the song with flipping a letter to 10 for each verse and do a motion and/or sound instead.

For example, they sing F I F T Y for the first verse. Then turn the letter F over for the second verse and have the children sing and show ten fingers for 10 for the letter F. They would sing 10, I F T Y. The third verse would be 10, 10, F T Y. Do this until all the letters are turned over and the last verse is 10, 10, 10, 10, 10! The 5 number 10 posters add up to 50 and 5 sets of ten fingers add up to 50 fingers!

Download Preview in my store (link above) to see the complete activity.

New Activity, Free Back To School Bookmarks, Papers, Papers and More Papers

I love creating educational activities and products for children!

Being a former scrapbooker and cardmaker, sometimes I can mix the two ideas.
I have many lovely reams and bundles of papers!
Papers in glorious solid colors, plus beautiful designs, prints and
delightful holiday patterns!

When I created my newest activity
which is 50% off for 48 more hours,
I was thinking about all those different papers and decided to have some fun with them!
This activity is a great way to practice number matching with a fall theme of pumpkins and leaves! Just laminate and use over and over every year!

Introduce or review the concepts of number matching. This activity can be used, even if only a few number concepts have been introduced. Then add the other pieces as they are learned.

Great center or group activity too! Download Preview to see the complete activity.

The product can be printed in color
or black and white to save on ink!
I printed the black and white set on bright colored cardstock.
I also ran them on some printed design papers just for fun!
I love the extra touch added to the activity!
Cute, cute, cute!
I found you need to be careful about the design or printed papers,
some children will be too distracted by the print, while others will learn to
focus on the activity and tune out the designs.

I have a new FREEBIE that I am sharing for Back To School.
Color, black and white or shades of gray to color.
Make every child feel special !
Enjoy!
